Routenbeschreibung

The Monte Legnone is the highest peak in all of the Alps. It looks out on the extreme northern edge of Lake Como. From the top, on a clear day, you can see from west to east, the Ligurian Alps, Monviso, Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, the Oberland, the giants of the Rhaetian Alps, the Orobian to the Dolomites. To the south the Po plain, the Apennines, and on windy days and clear, even Milan.
The tour includes the circumnavigation of Mount Legnone, using largely the mule tracks and roads built military in defense of the Po Valley In case of entry of the enemy from the Valtellina or from Switzerland (Cadorna Line).
I also added the climb to the top (which I highly recommend if it's a beautiful day), but to do walking, unless do not want to take the bike on your back even when going downhill, but with the memory of a picture with the bike below the summit cross!
The tour starts from Colico and held for about 24 km asphalt road to the village Gallino (Galin) at about 950 m. share in Valvarrone. Of course, this trait can be avoided by car, even though there remains the problem of the recovery.
The dirt road that starts from Galin is easily pedaled up to an altitude about 1900. From then becomes a path sometimes collapsed to a height of about 2400. In this section the pedabilità is about 50-60%, although the best ones surely will walk more.
Summit (2609 m), ccome already said, can only be reached on foot from the highest point in mtb ( about 2400 m).
Downhill from 2400 to 2100 or so, the road has caved in several parts and became a trail, with hairpins very closed and loose surfaces (probably this year, given the large snow fall, it will be even worse), because attention is also largely exposed. In August 2008, the stretch from 2100 to 1900 were in the course of the work of arrangement.
The tour that I inserted expected ascent to Passo del Columban (2005 m), about 200 m. in altitude and descent on the Refuge Scoggione always on the military road partly caved.
Scoggione From Refuge (1575m) (property of the CAI of Colico, we normally run in the summer) at about an altitude of 1200 (Pra of Formica ), is the most challenging part, being a path that goes down in a forest of larch trees, with several rocky steps, then everything gets easier as you slip in a beautiful beech forest, until you reach a Rusico (m. 800 approximately).
Here you have two options, or continue to follow the trail of the now unused paths and therefore quite challenging, or get off in Colico along the concrete road which then becomes paved again until you cross the track downhill.
