Routenbeschreibung

I'm not going to describe the path (in the sense of roadbook) is asphalt almost everything with the exception of the section of the quarry (quarry lazzaro) that the hermitage is reunited with the SB 38 first and with the Sp After 32, scaricatevi the GPS file.
The stretch of the quarry will have no mercy on your wheels (I got home I spent 2 afternoons to remove thorns from tires)
The hermitage of Santa Croce, embedded in limestone , is a hermitage whose original building must be expected for the coming of Sant'Darione in 363 AD
is a cave complex consists of four rock-hewn churches and the succession to the earthquakes that, over the centuries, this part of the interested 'Island.
The first church is a rock settled in an area used as a burial ground in the Middle Ages, and which remains in the earthquake of 786 AD the apse in a semicircle, still containing a subsellium semicircular, interrupted at the center by a chair.
The second church, entirely rock, it is conceivable for the presence of some structures preserved up to the left of the complex. This is the stump of a pillar connected by two arches in the center leaving thinking to a facility to cross inscribed with four central pillars. A collapse, perhaps as a result of the earthquake of 1167, completely destroyed the complex.
The third church is the last phase of architecture, built in the years after 1533, the year in which the finding of the Cross, who is venerated in the Church of SS. Crucified.
The facade of the church placed in front building with masonry, presents an iron gate.
The interior has a nave part of a beautiful series of frescoes; from the right side of a saint monaco (probably Sant'Ilarione), Virgin and Child, St. Theodore, St. Stephen, the Pantocrator in the apse, on the left side of San Pietro, the Annunciation, the Christ, Santa Chiara and figures of saints monks .
Of all these are visible today San Teodoro and Santo Stefano while the other figures are traces following the ravages of time.
The frescoes are attributed to the craftsmen from Asia Minor and Palestine for at least ten centuries wandered in the Mediterranean countries by offering their work.
The fourth church, also rock and a nave with an apse, is called the "cave of the ox" because it is linked to a legend which tells that in 1533 an ox was found in a cave, the entrance blocked by brambles, kneeling in front of a wooden cross.
Since then, the Cross is venerated with great devotion.
The May 3, 1728 he was translated to the Church of the Holy Crucified.
