Routenbeschreibung

The tour starts from the arrival of cabionovia Bormio 2000 (summer of 2013, the 3000 is closed for maintenance). You take the forest that rises to the chalet Rhododendrons and crosses the ski slopes. Near the chalet continue straight ahead along the mountain until the forest becomes a beautiful single track with ups and downs. After a stretch of downhill encounter a forest near a hut, with attention (waypoints), we find a path that is in proportion to the right (trail 20), a fifteen-minute drive brings us to a brief but intense descent who enters the Valley Sobretta, attention to some point exposed to the reduced width of the trail. Forded the stream with another 15 minute drive we carry on the opposite side of the valley of Sobretta where it starts, at an altitude of 2240, a beautiful and challenging dive on St. Catherine. A beautiful single track stuffed with curves and roots in a fairy fir forest. Then he reached a hut the trail becomes very steep trail but sliding in short takes us to Santa Caterina. Here for the sake of time we opted for the paved climb, there is a very physically tough off-road variant that reaches the ovens going for refuge huts dell'Ables. The first road to Santa Caterina hotel Forni glacier is quite a nightmare for bikers, steep, all the sun and with a decent passing cars. Arrived at the Forni the view opens on the beautiful glacial cirque of the Forni glacier dominated by the peaks of Pizzo Tresero and St. Matthew. We continue our strenuous climb through the Val Cedec on the access road to the Pizzini hut at an altitude of 2700mt. We've been here and would recommend, treatment and enjoying the view through the evening here are priceless.
From the refuge Pizzini climb to step Zebru for the obvious path that starts behind the hut, climb that takes place almost totally to push but that is amply rewarded by the descent and the visual is won by step, a lookout in the front row on Gran Zebru on Cevedale and the remaining peaks of the Ortler-side val Zebru.
NOTE: early July of 2013 given the exceptional snow yet discouraged zebru the descent into the valley, and for the same reason the gps track at some points does not coincide with the path because we avoided the numerous snowfields still present.
From the pass Zebru , we give the crossing in Val Zebru for a variant, in my opinion ciclisticamente more interesting, coming back from the south side Valfurva along the Monte Confinale.
From the pass to the shelter Zebru Pizzini the single track is spectacular and ideal to bring home great photographs. Just next to the Pizzini you take the scenic trail that runs parallel to the dirt road made the climb, this is also a trail from the anthology for flow and setting.
Arrived at the shelter on Forni begin a long latch (trail 27) halfway almost entirely cycle but with a few steps on foot, partly on forestry, in part, on single track that leads us to the huts dell'Ables respectively (2250mt) to Cabins Confinale di Sopra (2250mt) and Cabins Cavallaro (2217mt) here begins a simple, fast but fun dirt road that leads to supersonic speed in val Zebru the Ponte Tre Croci where we finish the circumnavigation of Confinale.
Entered in val Zebru we can refresh ourselves at the bar Infopoint before starting the climb to the road of 'Ables. With a short stretch of asphalt we bring Plazzanecco where the dirt road that takes us on the road dell'Ables itself, a masterpiece of road engineering of the First World War. Follow the road until a bend to the left at 2200 (waypoint) where we leave a path between the pines that leads us to the top of descent. For those wishing leg and he can continue on the road dell'Ables (deserves) until this is pedaled.
The descent initially on a path barely visible trail is another very funny, after a first stroke led the slope increases in a slide from gravel. Then we cross the track of the Gran Fondo Alta Valtellina with another stretch of steep and fun to the village of Fantelle. Here attention to the track, we lose a bit of altitude on asphalt incrcociando the track uphill and a hairpin take a paved road that quickly becomes single track (waypoint). The rest of the track is the descent of the Gran Fondo Alta Valtellina Bormio, almost all on single track that winds through a beautiful forest of larch trees with some really valuable traits never present major technical difficulties.
