NOTA 1): La scheda tecnica comprende l’ascesa (non ciclabile, dal rif. Dom na Matajur (q. 1550) alla cima (q. 1640) che consigliamo comunque di fare, almeno a piedi, dopo aver assicurato la custodia della bici.
2) Tutto il percorso è ben rintracciabile sulla carta Tabacco 041 Valli del Natisone.
DESCRIZIONE:
Partiti da Savogna (Loc.Crisnaro) per evitare un lungo tratto asfaltato si scende per 500 m lungo la valle, si attraversa il T. Alberone e si prende a risalire sul versante opposto della valle, verso Brizza. A quota 410 si prende a sx una bella forestale con ottimo fondo che permette di guadagnare quota fino all’incontro con la strada asfaltata per Canalaz; la si prende in discesa e si torna a fondo valle; riattraversato il torrente, poco dopo si riprende a salire tenendo a dx e con una breve rampa finale si giunge a Polava. In lieve salita su strada asfaltata si va verso Livek che si raggiunge dopo aver superato il vecchio e confine (non più custodito). Nel paesino sono chiare le indicazioni per il Matajur. La strada è asfaltata fino a q. 915, poi inizia un ottimo sterrato in un bosco stupendo e con pendenze molto costanti. A q. 1310, breve contropendenza, poi si riprende a salire. Attenzione al wp G (q. 1315) dove la strada più evidente porta a dx; bisogna invece passare il cancello (apertura a lato) che riporta in Italia. Presto la strada si riduce a sentiero che alterna tratti ciclabili ad altri che richiedono di spingere la bici. A q. 1470 con una brusca deviazione a sx si inizia un lungo tratto che attraversa tutto il versante sud del Matajur in moderata salita (con brevi ripidi tratti non ciclabili) . Dal bivio J q. 1520 il percorso sarà andata/ritorno per la stessa. Raggiunto il rif. Dom na Matajur a q. 1550, si è ormai vicini alla vetta ma la salita si fa quasi tutta a piedi (vedi NOTA 1). In caso di bel tempo il panorama a 360° è impareggiabile; se trovate nebbia (come capitato a noi) avere la traccia sul GPS è di grande aiuto. In discesa la ciclabilità dipende molto dalla vostra abilità ma anche dalle condizioni del terreno (in caso di bagnato si trova un fango molto scivoloso). Mettete comunque in conto di fare un po’ di strada a piedi anche in discesa in quanto vari punti sono rovinati da solchi profondi. A q. 1330 trovate il rif. Pelizzo, (aperto fino al 15 ottobre) e comunque potete trovare ristoro nel bel paesino di Montemaggiore che si raggiunge velocemente per asfalto. Ancora una facile e veloce discesa sulla principale (traffico comunque quasi assente) fino al wp P (q. 630) dove si devia per una stradina in lieve salita fino a Tercimonte. Qui ha inizio l’ultima discesa; alcuni mesi or sono, il fondo fa era in buone condizioni, da poterlo pedalare in salita mentre di recente era talmente rovinato e ingombro di rovi e arbusti da rendere ostica la discesa. Questo fino a Stefenig, dove inizia l’asfalto che consente un rapido rientro a Savogna.

NOTE 1): The specification includes the ascent (not cycle, from Ref. Matajur Dom na (q. 1550), the top (q. 1640) do suggest, however, that, at least in feet, after securing the custody of the bike.

DESCRIPTION:
Departing from Savogna (Loc.Crisnaro) to avoid a long stretch of asphalt is down to 500 m along the valley, cross the T. Alberone and looks to get back on the opposite side of the valley, towards Brizza. At 410m you turn left a beautiful forest with great bottom that allows you to gain altitude until the meeting with the paved road to Canalaz; you take it down and return to the valley; recrossed the river, shortly after it starts to climb to the right and taking a short flight we arrive at the final Polava. Slightly uphill on a paved road going towards Livek which is reached after crossing the old border (not the most secure). In the village there are clear indications for the Matajur. The road is paved up to q. 915, then starts a good dirt road in a forest with slopes gorgeous and very consistent. A q. 1310 short counterslope, then back up again. Beware of wp G (q., 1315) where the road most obvious door on the right; instead must pass the gate (opening side) that shows in Italy. Soon the road becomes a path that alternates with other paths that require you to push the bike. A q. 1470, a sharp detour to the left begins a long stretch that runs through the south side of Matajur in moderate climb (with short steep sections not paths). From the junction J q. 1520 the route will be outward / return for the same. Reached the ref. Dom na Matajur to q. In 1550, we are approaching the summit, but the climb is almost all on foot (see NOTE 1). In fine weather the 360 ??° panorama is incomparable; if you find fog (as we were) to have the track on the GPS is a great help. Downhill cycling is very dependent on your skill but also by the conditions of the soil (in the case of wet mud is a very slippery). Put into account, however, to do a little 'street walk downhill also because the various points are marred by deep furrows. A q. 1330 found the ref. Pelizzo, (open until 15 October), however you can find comfort in the beautiful village of Montemaggiore that is quickly reached by asphalt. Still a fast and easy down the main (almost no traffic anyway) to the wp P (q. 630), then turn to a narrow, slightly uphill until Tercimonte. Here begins the final descent; a few months ago, was the fund is in good condition, it can be pedaling uphill while recently it was so spoiled and full of brambles and bushes to make the tricky descent. That is, until Stefenig, where he began the asphalt that allows a quick return to Savogna.
