Avevo un conto in sospeso con la Montagna Madre, la Majella, …. oggi, in una spettacolare giornata d’autunno, ho ottenuto il riscatto e … anche il resto!!
Come sempre l’obbiettivo è la vetta, ma perché accontentarsi di una: se ti devi riscattare bisogna farlo in grande stile ;)
Parto in solitaria alle 8,00 da Caramanico Terme 550 mslm (parcheggio prima del ponte sull’Orfento), per asfalto passo la galleria fino alla rotatoria che mi indica la frazione di San Nicolao 800 mslm ; raggiungo questa con qualche tornante e la attraverso, imbocco la comunale chiusa al transito fino a quota 900 mslm dove trovo il bivio, segnalato con tabella in legno, per la località Guado S. Antonio; la carrareccia finisce su un parcheggio con sbarre verdi a 1200 mslm: seguo le indicazioni per il rifugio Barrasso che poi mi condurranno all’attesa cresta del monte Rapina.
Il sentiero fino alle sbarre è ovviamente tutto ciclabile, ma poche centinaia di metri sopra inizia un portage che definisco “accademico”, visto che il sentiero percorre la linea di massima pendenza senza deviazioni, e lo si deve affrontare con militaresca coscienza dei metri di dislivello che ancora si debbono affrontare!!
Superato il rifugio si continua in portage sui prati: attenzione che più sopra di duecento metri scompaiono i segnavia e, quindi, si deve puntare diretti alle creste sommitali contornate dai pini mughi; lassù si ritroveranno gli omini e i bastoni colorati bianco/rosso; quota 1900 mslm. Conquistata la cresta, la percorro tra tratti di roccia, foreste impenetrabili di pino mugo e viste mozzafiato sulla valle dell’Orfento e sulle vette brulle della Majella!! Raggiungo il monte Rapina a 2027 mslm ma debbo tornare un poco indietro per prendere il bivio che costeggia la sinistra della cresta per poi riuscire dai pini mughi sulla sella a 2300 mslm, sotto al monte Pescofalcone. Ancora in cresta in portage su pietraia … salita dura e severa e aspra fino alla anticima con croce in ferro e poi alla vetta a 2657 mslm; a questo punto il più sembra fatto e la Majella ora gioca a carte scoperte …. ma il bluff è in agguato: dal Pescofalcone vedi tutto e tutto sembra a portata di mano, ma le distanze sono nascoste dalla irrazionale paradisiaca visione dell’insieme: la Majella mi ha stregato!!!
Punto alla vetta più alta, con ampio giro passo sotto al Treportoni e mi dirigo verso la cresta NO, la risalgo in poussage fino al singolare bivacco rosso e alla croce di vetta Monte Amaro 2793 mslm ore 13,00 . Sono solo sull’ombelico della Majella e il panorama a 360° spazia fino al mare, al massiccio Gran Sasso, ai Monti Gemelli, alla Laga, al Velino….. più sotto i precipiti versanti spaccati della Valle Cannella, con le corone delle vette che mi aspettano: il Treportoni, il Pomilio e il Focalone… tutto intorno le rave con le parti terminali verdeggianti e rosse d’autunno!!
Inizio la discesa sulla stessa cresta NO: molto guduriosa, veloce nei tratti puliti, di brecciolino compatto, …ma dura poco!
Risalgo il Treportoni 2653 mslm in portage e lo ridiscendo con qualche tratto in arrampicata: purtroppo la parte seguente non permette molta ciclabilità, quindi poussage e portage prima fino alla Cima Pomilio 2656 mslm e poi fino al Focalone 2676 mslm.
La visione dell’alta valle dell’Orfento è sublime: le aspre e inaccessibili pareti delle vette attraversate si tuffano e vengono ingoiate dal verde della valle!!!
Il contrasto dei colori è estasiante e la verticalità dei luoghi dà alla testa…attenti però al tempo reale che scorre: al Focalone alle ore 16,00 non è cosa buona!! ancora 2 ore di sole e più di 2000 metri di dislivello negativo!!!
Dal Focalone la discesa è molto più tecnica per la cresta N: il primo tratto eroso dalle piogge, mi costringe a un bel fuori sentiero su pendio erboso estremo; poi il sentiero si ricompone e, tra tratti di roccia e attraversamenti tra mughi, lo scapicollo prende il sopravvento!!! molto molto bello!!....esaltante anche la visuale giù per la Macchia di Caramanico e, arrivati al monte Cavallo 2171 mslm, votatevi indietro ad ammirare la vostra impresa appena compiuta lungo la cresta!! senza eguali…
La lunga traversata delle pendici del monte Blockhouse, con tratti pedalabili molto gustosi e altri di poussage, mi porta alla Majelletta, da lì al rif. Pomilio per asfalto; scendo fino a quota 1718 mslm sempre per asfalto fino ad incrociare il sentiero B1 (direzione Decontra) che attraversa i prati di Fonte Tettoni, bellissima e defaticante ciclabilità, fino al rifugio Marcello di Marco 1750 mslm al Prato della Majelletta ( prima di raggiungere la Majelletta, sotto la cima del Blockhouse si vede il rifugio da sopra, quindi, raggiungibile in freeride sui pendii erbosi, con prezioso risparmio di tempo): in controsole occhio a non perdere i segnavia!... il tramonto incombe!!!
Mi rimane da scendere il fianco dx della valle dell’Orfento in carrareccia, pensando ad una noiosa e triste perdita di dislivello negativo dopo tutte le fatiche della giornata (anche se il pensiero era volto all’interno della valle dell’Orfento, la tarda ora mi ha fatto scegliere per la via di rientro più logica e veloce).
….ma le sorprese non finiscono: la carrareccia è oramai fagocitata dalla natura e diventa sentiero velocissimo; più sotto dove ricompare la strada praticabile, molte le deviazioni segnalate (occhio alla prima ad un abbeveratoio risalire leggermente a sx!): veloci e flow, single track inaspettati su prati, tratti su vecchie carrozzabili lastricate che mettono a dura prova il fisico stanco, e poi, dopo il paese Decontra, ultimo scapicollo da quota 800 mslm a Caramanico Terme, proprio sopra il parcheggio, nell’oscurità della sera!!

I had a score to settle with the Mother Mountain, the Majella. ... Today, in a spectacular fall day, I got the ransom and ... the rest !!
As always, the goal is the top, but why settle for one if you need to redeem it must be done in large style;)
Childbirth in solitary at 8.00 from Caramanico Terme 550 meters above sea level (parking lot before the bridge Orfento), asphalt step the tunnel to the roundabout that shows me the village of San Nicolao 800 meters above sea level; I get this with a few hairpin bends and through the communal entrance closed to traffic for up to an altitude of 900 meters above sea level where I find the intersection, marked with wooden table, for the town Guado San Antonio; the carriage road ends at a parking lot with green bars at 1200 m: follow the signs to the refuge Barrasso which then lead me to the expectation of the mountain ridge Robbery.
The trail up to the bars is obviously the whole path, but a few hundred meters above starts a portage I call "academic", as the trail crosses the fall line without deviation, and it must be faced with military-consciousness of vertical meters that still have to face !!
After the retreat continues portage in the meadows: Ensure that more than two hundred yards above the trail and disappear, then, you should point directly to the summit ridge surrounded by pines; there will meet the men and colored sticks white / red; altitude of 1900 meters above sea level. Conquered the ridge, I walk between stretches of rock, dense forests of pine and breathtaking views of the valley and the peaks dell'Orfento barren Majella !! Robbery reach the mountain at 2027 meters above sea level but I must go back a little to take the road that runs along the left side of the ridge and then succeed by pines on the saddle at 2300 meters above sea level, below the mountain Pescofalcone. Still on stony ridge in portage ... climb hard and stern and harsh to the smaller peak with iron cross and then to the summit at 2657 meters above sea level; at this point the more it seems done and the Majella cards on ... now. but the bluff is lurking: the Pescofalcone see everything and everything seems to be at hand, but the distances are hidden from the view of the whole irrational paradise: the Majella has bewitched me !!!
point to the highest peak, with wide circle step below the Treportoni and I headed to the crest NO, I go back in the poussage up the singular camp to the summit cross and red Monte Amaro 2793 masl 13.00. I'm just on the navel of the Majella and the 360-degree panorama stretches to the sea, to the Gran Sasso massif, at the Twin Mountains, to Laga, Velino .. more ... under the precipitous slopes of the valley split Cinnamon, with the crowns of the peaks waiting for me: the Treportoni, the Pomilio and Focalone ... all around the rave with the terminal parts of the green and red autumn !!
Start the downhill on the same ridge NO: guduriosa very fast, clean the stretches of gravel Compact, ... but it does not last long!
I go up the Treportoni 2653 meters above sea level in portage and back down with some stretch in climbing, but unfortunately the next part does not allow a lot of cycling, then poussage and portage before Pomilio 2656 meters above sea level to the summit and then to Focalone 2676 meters above sea level.
The vision of the upper valley dell'Orfento is sublime: the rugged and inaccessible walls of the cross peaks plunge and are swallowed by the green valley !!!
The contrast of colors is entrancing and the verticality of the places to your head ... but be careful, the real-time flows at Focalone at 16.00 is not good !! still 2 hours of sunshine and more than 2000 meters in altitude negative !!!
Since Focalone the descent is much more technique for crest N: the first part eroded by rain, forcing me to a nice grassy slope outside the path of extreme ; then the path is recomposed and, between stretches of rock and crossings between pines, the Scapicollo takes over! very very nice .... exciting !! also the view down the stain and Caramanico, arrived at Monte Cavallo 2171 meters above sea level, votatevi back to admire your company just completed along the crest !! unmatched ...
The long crossing of the slopes of Mount Blockhouse, with ridable stretches very tasty and others poussage, brings me to Majelletta, from there to ref. Pomilio for asphalt; descend to an altitude of 1718 meters above sea level ever for asphalt until you cross the path B1 (Decontra direction) that crosses the fields of Source Tettoni, beautiful and fatigue cycling, to the refuge of Marco Marcello 1750 meters above sea level at the Prato della Majelletta (before reaching the Majelletta , below the top of Blockhouse you see the hut from above, then, just a free ride on the grassy slopes, with valuable time savings) in controsole careful not to lose the trail! ... the sunset looming !!!
I have yet to get off the right side of the valley dell'Orfento in cart track, thinking of a boring and sad loss of a negative slope after all the labors of the day (although the thought was inside face of the valley dell'Orfento, the late made me choose the way of returning more logical and fast).
... But that's not all: the cart is now engulfed by nature and became fast path; below where reappears feasible way, many deviations reported (the first eye to a trough climb slightly to the left!) and fast flow, single track unexpected on lawns, traits of old carriage roads paved that put a strain on the body tired, and then, after the country Decontra last Scapicollo from the altitude of 800 meters above sea level in Caramanico Terme, just above the parking lot, in the darkness of night !!
